At Laird Brothers we consider business a long-term activity.
This means creating and maintaining relationships
with customers, partners, suppliers, staff
as well as communities to the mutual benefit
of all parties. As this company is part of
the community and society we can only remain
profitable and develop our potential if the
community is thriving. As a small company
we are limited in what we can offer, however we have made
the following contributions both to the community
and in protecting the community from the environmental impact of quarrying:
1.
Laird Brothers have planted 50,000 trees and plans are in place to plant
another 200,000 on our land in Forfar and Blairgowrie. If each mature
tree can 'fix' 17 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, (leisure services,
Angus council, 2000) then we are potentially responsible for fixing 850,000
tonnes for carbon dioxide per year. The impact of our tree planting activities
can be further put in perspective if 300 trees can provide enough oxygen
for a town like Kirriemuir.
2. We have
began reinstatement work at our Forfar
quarry which in years to come will offer
the community a scenic countryside surpassing
any expectations, with ponds and embankments
3. We regularly provide financial assistance
to Forfar Athletic Football club
4. We provided the building materials
free to the girl guides in Forfar.
5. We follow all the criteria set by
SEPA, FTA, QPA.
6. We currently sponsor Blairgowrie Boys
under 13's football team (photo)
